1st prize University Library Duisburg-Essen :

The Cologne branch of KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten has won the competition for the new library at Duisburg-Essen University. The Cologne-based architects were able to win the international competition with a glass cube as the main element in the design of the new building and two peripheral elements (“show window” and rotation building). The new building creates a striking landmark, not only for the university, but for the entire city of Essen. At the same time, what was previously the rear of the campus is upgraded to become a new point of entry to the university site and what will in future serve as a new boulevard from downtown given new accentuation.
